WHO KILLED RATIONAL USE OF MEDICINE?
Is dedicated to the millions of communities around the world that have fought in various ways to preserve their health and well-being in the face of misinformation, misguided government policies, and attacks by profit-hungry commercial interests. It is also dedicated to those brave health professionals, workers, and researchers who work in communities, helping them in the struggle to understand the role of medicines and how to use them safely and effectively. It is a story written for a non-technical audience interested in health. Journalist and author Satya Sivaraman has written the report in the form of a detective story, based on two characters, Herlock Sholmes and Dr. Whatsup. While it uses fiction to engage the reader, the report itself is based entirely on the presentations, debates, and discussions that took place at the congress and provides detailed information on why and how to improve the use of medicines, which is an important challenge that society must take on.
To publish this police version, which highlights the fight to contain antimicrobial resistance, to establish a social, scientific, and equitable basis for the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases, and to establish policies and programs that support high-quality professional practice for therapeutic decision-making independent of commercial influence. It also highlights ways and means for people to participate at all levels of decision-making on health and drug policies.
